Ash Sakula and Leather Lane Traders on Robert Elms BBC Radio London 94.9FM

Simon Rochowski of Ash Sakula Architects and Tim Driscoll, head trader of the Leather Lane Market Traders Association spoke today on the Robert Elms show on BBC Radio London 94.9FM about our local Leather Lane Market. The market has been gradually shrinking over the last few years and Ash Sakula have been working with its traders to campaign for its survival.

Simon emphasised how important the market is for the local neighbourhood, the community and the city. The traders play a big part in animating the public realm as well as positively contributing to the strength of the local economy. Tim pointed out that Markets like Leather Lane offer customers good quality, reasonable priced goods, ‘sold with a smile’

The pair also discussed what measures could be implemented to help the market. Introducing a traffic warden and improving signage are examples of small investments which could make a big difference to the livelihood of the market. ‘a small amount of investment us is needed to deliver this great enterprise’
