Cany Ash was invited as a keynote speaker to a major conference in Iran’s second city, Mashhad, home of the Imam Reza shrine, visited by many millions of pilgrims each year. Cany’s theme was to explore alternative tourist development strategies which can be created by an incremental, adaptive process of the existing destination rather than by massive new infrastructure-based development.
