Sugar House Lane is typical of the ordinary industrial fabric of many British towns and cities, and almost unique in that Newham Council have recognised its qualities and designated the area citing the street layout and the chimneys as a conservation area. We have carried out a number of studies in the area, showing how adaptation is almost always better than demolition followed by comprehensive redevelopment.
